Ok, so many of us are not starting to look into the educational potential of uStream as well as incorporating other conversationan methods that we have been using like Skype. Ryan Gordon figured out a way to do it in the MAC environment, and I will show you how to be able to get Skype into the PC environment
First, off you need to have a second distinct mic (like a usb mic) to run the skype audio with (what you are going to be speaking into s Skype users can her you) and your PC speakers close to the primary audio input for your uStream feed. I use a Logitech QuickCam® Ultra Vision (USB) which has a mic built in for audio.
Now go into your Skype settings for audio and set the secondary mic (USB mic) as the audio input for your Skype call. While you are there, ensure that your PC/laptop speakers are set as the Skype output device and make sure that they are relatively close to the primary mic that you will be running the uStream on.
Now launch uStream and “Go Live” in the lower right hand corner of the uStream broadcast screen you will see “Advanced Settings” Click on the words and an Audio/Video config panel will open. For audio, select your primary mic (different from the one you will be using for skype) for the uStream, and adjust the record sider to ensure that you will not overdirve the mic… you may need to adjust this throughout the stream to ensure distortion is kept to a minimum (some Skype callers will be louder than others). uStream recomments that you don’t go into the “red” on audio when recording.
Now make your Skype call/conference :) You should get all of the callers through the speaker being picked up by the primary mic, (as well as your voice) and your Skype callers will hear you through the secondary (USB) mic.
Simple ;0) Oh and if you are still a bit lost, visit the Vanishing Point Wiki here to see a screencast of the setup I went through above as well as an embed of my test uStream broadcast.
